THIS IS THE BEGINNING, THIS IS NOT THE END
The designer Kristina Rinkevičiūtė and artist Monika Šlancauskaitė entered this book for the First Book Award competition organized by Lithuanian National Martyno Mažvydo library, received Alma Littera publishing house interest to publish a book, mention among Best Lithuanian Books for Children and Young Adults 2019-2020 by Lithuanian Culture Institute.
Artist Monika creates handmade unique style illustrations by using colored markers. While designer Kristina found the best way to reveal each of them by fixing illustrators compositions and coordinating layout look.
Book itself maintains an open and creative view of the world. Starting from the book cover on which is an embellished graceful giraffe going from cover to back showcasing the main idea and title ‘This is the beginning, this is not the end’. Every spread of this board book is a new observation about the world that surrounds us. A child is presented with an object of nature or an animal, accompanied by an explanation of what it does or denoting a certain feature. For instance: ‘Kyšo zuikio ausytės. Jis graužia morkytę.’ (Rabbit's ears stick out. He is eating carrot). The book is very simple, with impeccable rhymes, and matches the abilities and needs of very young readers. The book is exceptionally creative and artistically playful, strongly accentuating the educational aspects. Board book consists of 20 pages (160 x 160 mm), and is suitable for children ages from 0-3.
